NAC BOARD, STAFF TO JOIN HANDS IN FIGHT AGAINST HIV AND AIDS

The Board of Commissioners and members of staff of the National AIDS Commission (NAC) have pledged to join hands in order to realize success in the fight against the HIV and AIDS pandemic.

This was said by both representatives of the Board and staff during a recent meeting in Maseru, where the Board met all NAC staff for the first time since their appointment to serve NAC.

Speaking on behalf of the Board, Mrs Puleng Lebitsa who holds the Finance Portfolio expressed their happiness to have been able to meet the NAC staff, saying it is gratifying for them to have been entrusted to lead this important institution dealing with HIV and AIDS issues.

She said they have been assigned to lead the fight against the pandemic and they are willing to do their best to lead NAC to new heights in dealing with its mandate to coordinate the national response to HIV and AIDS, further pleading staff members to work hand in hand with the Board in tackling the pandemic.

She referred to the fact that Lesotho is still on the third position among countries with the highest prevalence rate worldwide, further noting that it was up to the National AIDS Commission to coordinate implementing agencies towards the right direction so as to further reduce the spread of the pandemic.

On behalf of NAC Staff, the Communications Officer Mrs Mpolokeng Mpeli thanked the Board for having found it necessary to meet the NAC staff, within a very short period of their appointment.

“We promise to do our best and to be acquiescent to the Board’s leadership for together we can make a difference in people’s lives,” she reiterated.

The new members are Advocate Lehlanako Mofilikoane – Leqele, who holds the Legal Portfolio; Ms. Puleng Lebitsa, taking on the Finance Portfolio; Mr. Mohau Mabote, a member of the HIV and AIDS Forum and appointed to the Stakeholders Portfolio; and Dr. ‘Molotsi Monyamane, who remains with the Health Portfolio, having served in the previous Board and re-appointed to the new body. Advocate Thabo Makeka, the previous Board Chair, remains the Chairperson of the new Board.
