RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 22 APRIL 2010
The monthly HIV and AIDS Partnership Forum convened by the
National AIDS Commission (NAC) will focus on HIV and AIDS
programming for the marginalised and vulnerable groups, during a
half day meeting scheduled for Thursday April 29, 2010 at the UN
Boardroom starting 2.30pm.
The monthly forum is an information sharing platform by and for
stakeholders dealing with the response to HIV and AIDS, and the
theme of the forum is different for each month. Presentations
and discussions for the meeting will focus on HIV and AIDS
programming for vulnerable groups including HIV prevention for
Commercial Sex Workers to be delivered by Liatla Productions,
HIV and AIDS programming for prison inmates and HIV and AIDS
programming for gays and lesbians to be presented by the Matrix
Support Group.
In Lesotho groups that have been identified as vulnerable to HIV
and AIDS include among others orphans and vulnerable children,
the poor, alcohol and drug abusers, commercial sex workers,
prisoners, herdboys, migrant populations, people with
disabilities, people in homosexual relationships and People
Living with HIV and AIDS.
Impact mitigation has been used as a strategy to address the
socio-economic and psychological challenges posed by HIV and
AIDS on vulnerable households and individual persons. In
addition, HIV Prevention including Treatment, Care & Support for
these groups have been advocated for in line with the
fundamental human right to equality of persons in service
provision and access. It is for this reason that HIV and AIDS
programming and services for these vulnerable groups will be
discussed at the forum.
The theme for the past monthly Partnership Forum was Treatment,
Care and Support.
